What to pack for Korea - Part 2

So we talked about what clothes to bring with you on your trip into the hot Korean summer time heat but we thought we would also share our two cents on what else can be useful to pack for your vacation, especially if it's a longer one like ours.

There are quite a few products and handy little things that aren't as easily accessible in Korea as they might be where you live and that you won't even notice you need until you are already out of the country and it's too late and you find yourself running through all those stores looking everywhere for liquid hand soap...

Here's what certainly will be found in our suitcases when leaving for Korea in a week

• Hair stuff is better brought along because you know how it works on you. Especially if your hair tends to be a little on the demanding side, you know what works best and the Asian hair structure is a little bit different from ours, so we like to stick to our trusty products. If you have something from a Korean brand you want to try go for it but we can’t really give tips on that.
• The rule we live by is that we do have things we will be getting in Korea but in case we don’t go shopping on the first day we bring sample sizes from Germany to last us a few days before we find the time to buy everything. Same goes for toothpaste probably. And your daily moisturizer. And of course products you don't want to miss from your daily rountine that can't be bought overseas.
• Lady hygenic items are best brought along. This is something you really don't want to have to worry about.
• Bring an umbrella and don’t expect to bring it back home
• Something that doesn’t apply to us but will most probably apply to you is that your plugs won’t work in Korea due to the different style of outlets so be sure to get yourself an adapter.
• Deodorant. Loads of it. Bring it with you.
• Cough medicine could be a good choice to bring along if you are not used to ACs as we are.
• Maps are good, previously prepared addresses too, but you don’t really need a travel guide in book form cause you'll have wifi access all the time anyways so you can look it up on the internet. They'd just be unnecessary weight in your luggage and you wanna avoid that. We didn't use ours even once. Plus, it can be nice to just wander around the streets and explore on your own without any touristy guide or set plan to tell you where to go. You'll get to experience more that way.
• As just now mentioned, be sure to leave some room in your luggage for all of the purchases that are bound to happen. Baggage allowances are evil.
• Sunscreen. Can be bought there or brought along. Just be sure to have some!
• Something handy we saw on our last trip to Korea were small face towels to carry in your handbag when you go out. In case of heavy rain happening. Which will happen. Trust us.

What to pack for Korea - Clothes Edition

Back when we first travelled to Korea there was hardly any useful information out there on what to pack for a trip into the terrible heat and humidity South Korea offers its visitors in the summer time...

Luckily we're usually doing pretty well with packing, however there are a few things we had to experience ourselves before optimising our packing list.

Since many people we know are going to travel to Korea this summer as well, many of them for the first time, we've compiled a handy little list on what we think would be useful and smart to pack and what is better left at home.

We'd certainly been happy to have some sort of guide like this a few years ago. Oh all the unworn long pants we kept on lugging around...

Here's a brief summary of Dos and Don'ts when packing for your Korea summer vacation

• Be prepared for warmth and humidity. Be. Prepared.
• Only a few long pieces of clothing. One pair of long trousers is enough. We promise.
• Try to go for shirts that keep your shoulders somewhat covered if you want to try to culturally blend in a little.
• Bottoms however can be as short as you are comfortable with.
• Rainboots could be a wise choice. And take an umbrella.
• Try to opt for less expensive shoes as you will ruin at least one pair of them anyways. Or go with some kind of shower sandals. Quite a few Koreans do as well, you won't feel underdressed.
• Hair ties / bobby pins / all things to help make you sweat less are a big YES and very good to bring along in considerable amounts.
• If you are on the taller side think twice about bringing high heels. Except you are really confident and don't mind standing out some more.
• Bring a scarf. Can be used on your flight to Korea and anywhere else ACs happen.
• Lastly, do what makes you feel comfortable. Feeling at ease in your own skin is the most important thing and we hope that we could at least help a little bit with that, so you can worry less about what to wear and instead focus on bringing back lots of good memories. Enjoy your stay!

Introducing Seoul Satang

Hello and thank you for finding your way to Seoul Satang! We hope you'll enjoy your stay.

We are three friends currently residing in Europe who are not only into Korean pop culture, as previously seen on our K-Pop related Youtube channel Melon Satang, but also into everything that is makeup and fashion. Of course, due to our interest in the Korean culture, we do predominantly enjoy Korean brands and products, but we don't want to limit ourselves to only that as we have a pretty broad spectrum of interests. We are three very different girls after all...

For the upcoming summer of 2014 we've fullfilled our dream of travelling to South Korea all together. Not only are we going to attend a summer language course at a university in Seoul, but we'll also travel arond the city as well as to Busan.

We've felt so inspired by all those travel diaries and lifestyle vlogs of other Youtubers that we've decided to use Youtube as a way to store all of our memories and also share them with all of you.
